Master of Engineering
COMPUTER SCIENCE OR COMPUTER ENGINEERING
The Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree utilizes a distinct project-based approach to expand students’ technical and professional skills in computer science or computer engineering, and prepare them to assume leadership roles in the industry.
With open access to the National Landing tech ecosystem just a few miles from the Nation’s capital, our Alexandria, Virginia location gives students the tools to drive change and jumpstart their careers. These practical programs taught by top Virginia Tech researchers are designed to enhance skills in current top areas of tech, including data analytics and A.I., machine learning, autonomous systems, and network security.

COMPUTER SCIENCE
The Master of Science (M.S.) degree provides a solid foundation in computer science research to elevate your career. Students based in the Washington, D.C., area have access to a variety of faculty researchers within the Institute for Advanced Computing while completing their studies.
This degree prepares students to conduct original research alongside world-class faculty in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and human–computer interaction. The program combines cutting-edge coursework with hands-on research, culminating in a research thesis. Graduates emerge ready to pursue doctoral study or lead in the workforce in areas like research and development, and innovation across industry, government, and academia.

COMPUTER SCIENCE OR COMPUTING ENGINEERING
Many students working toward a doctorate in computer science or computer engineering are based at Academic Building One in Alexandria, where they conduct research alongside faculty with the Institute for Advanced Computing. Students focus their research on current areas such as next-gen wireless technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and multiple areas of national security.
Doctoral students also work within the university’s research centers based in Alexandria including the Sanghani Center for AI and Data Analytics and the Center for Quantum Architecture and Software Development, as well as with faculty leading their fields in wireless and computer systems.
