Cost, Scholarship, and Aid

Thank you for your interest in the Virginia Tech graduate programs at the Institute for Advanced Computing. The cost of graduate education includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, health insurance, personal costs, transportation, taxes, and loan fees. Amounts can vary based on in-state/out-of-state status, campus location, degree program, and individual choices and circumstances.

Aid and Scholarships 

Masters and PhD graduate students may receive funding from a variety of sources to offset the cost of their graduate studies. Depending on your program and circumstance, students should explore their options and consult with the Office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid at finaid@vt.edu or 540-231-5179 as needed.

Virginia Tech is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships to support Master of Engineering students. First-time students in the Virginia Tech Graduate Program who wish to be considered for scholarships: please complete the admissions application and create log-in credentials. For continuing MENG students, please reach out to techtalent@vt.edu

Virginia Tech offers a Pilot Regional Tuition Scholarship for eligible residents of Washington, D.C. and Maryland admitted to the MEng in Computer Science Applications (CSA) or Computer Engineering (CPE) at the Alexandria location.

This program is a two-year pilot, with regional tuition scholarship rates applying for students starting fall 2026 through fall 2028. The scholarship will cover students for the duration of their degree as long as they remain in good academic standing. For students beginning their program in Fall 2026, this scholarship provides an estimated 40% tuition discount. Students who receive the regional tuition scholarship will not be eligible for other M.Eng scholarships except in very rare instances.

Estimated Cost

  • Estimated annual tuition (based on 2025-2026 Tuition): $34,916

  • Estimated scholarship value: ~$13,966 per year

  • Estimated tuition after scholarship: ~$20,950 per year

  • Course Enrollment: Must be enrolled in at least 1 course within the greater D.C. area

Final tuition rates and scholarship amounts are subject to approval by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors for FY 2026–2027.

Important Notes

  • The scholarship is guaranteed for eligible students who enroll in the M.Eng at Virginia Tech's Academic Building One in Alexandria (on application: select National Capital Region (D.C.))

The Boeing Graduate Scholars program provides various levels of scholarships, including up to full tuition and fees at the graduate in-state rate. This scholarship was founded to support high-achieving U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are applying to the Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Applications or Master of Engineering in Computer Engineering programs. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at the Northern Virginia Campus.

Full-time students can receive funding for a total of up to three terms and half-time students up to five terms. This award may be combined with other scholarships but will be cancelled if the student receives a departmental assistantship.

Students will need to submit their Graduate School admission application, meet the eligibility criteria listed above, and answer the Additional Education Experience section of the application to be automatically considered for this scholarship. Contact techtalent@vt.edu for more information.
