Partner With IAC Through Project-Based Learning

The IAC is seeking collaborative partners in innovation to integrate into project-based learning within the Master of Engineering program, expand the scope of university research, and build the technology talent pipeline, all while encouraging exploration, creation, and the growth of new ideas and solutions. Through structured project-based learning (PBL), IAC connects companies with high-performing Master of Engineering students to solve real business problems across AI, software engineering, cybersecurity, quantum computing, and more.

PARTNERSHIPS 2-PAGER

Why Partner with IAC?

As part of Virginia Tech’s $1B investment in tech talent, IAC operates from Academic Building One in Alexandria, positioned at the center of industry, government, and innovation in the DC metro region.

Our project-based learning model enables graduate students to apply advanced technical skills to real-world business challenges — delivering tangible outcomes while strengthening your future workforce pipeline.

How Does it Work?

The engagement consists of teams of 4–6 graduate students working on projects spanning either one or two semesters. Each team participates in a weekly industry mentorship touchpoint of approximately 30 minutes, while operating within a structured academic framework that includes faculty oversight. Projects are flexibly aligned with your organization’s R&D priorities.

Projects can be conceptualized around:

  • R&D challenges

  • Product development exploration

  • Technical feasibility studies

  • Data-driven decision support

  • Innovation initiatives

We work with you to scope projects that balance practical constraints with open-ended discovery.
